One of 2020’s best games is Switching it up
I have been singing the praises of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim since I first reviewed it last year. Developed by Vanillaware, the game tells a complicated and enthralling story of high school students from different timelines as they wage war against kaiju that are attacking the city. With outstanding visuals, superb dialogue, and a time-jumping plot that keeps the twists coming, the game is Vanillaware at its best. Unfortunately, based on the many comments I’ve seen written about this game, a lot of people are still hesitant to give it a go. And I get that. Arguably, the tactical battles between the kids in their mecha and the kaiju aren’t all that engaging, and if you’re not into conversation-heavy, old-school adventure games, you might not like the other half of it either. But I maintain it’s one of the best anime games of the past 10 years, and if the only reason you haven’t given it a go yet is the lack of a 13 Sentinels Switch port, know that you won’t have to wait much longer.
In celebration of the game’s two-year anniversary (from its original Japanese release) Altus announced today that 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is making the jump to Switch next spring. Finally, you can enjoy yakisoba pan on the go, just as it was meant to be.
If you don’t have a Switch but are interested in checking this game out, 13 Sentinels is on sale as of the publication of this news post for pretty cheap on the PS4. If you’d rather have it on Switch, the game will hit the platform on April 12, 2022.
