Will be released for free if funded
Lab Zero Games is taking to IndieGoGo for a crowdfunding initiative that, if successful, will result in the release of a downloadable character called Squigly. The team is asking for $150,000 to make it happen, which will undoubtedly seem like a lot of money. They have a breakdown of where funds will go, ranging from voice recording to certification to fees associated with IndieGoGo itself. Making games (and not starving) isn’t cheap!
The key takeaway is that Squigly will be released on all platforms for free for the first three months, after which points the character will jump up to $5. Other goals include another character, Big Band, at $375,000; Big Band’s story mode and stage at $400,000; a mystery character chosen by fans at $600,000; and the mystery character’s story and stage at $625,000.
It would be a shame to see Skullgirls go unsupported, but that decision ultimately depends on many people coming forward with cash in hand. If they’re going to do this, they might as well go all out. I can respect that ambition.
