It’s official: 20 million downloadable Call of Duty map packs have been sold and counting. Perhaps now you can see why everyone is expecting the franchise to inevitably go subscription-based with its multiplayer component. The potential there as another revenue source is practically unfathomable.
I mean, what more in the way of proof do you need? Collectively, we are willing to pay for the games, the map packs — no matter if they cost $10, $15, or whatever — and you know something like a monthly fee wouldn’t be enough to stop the majority of players.
One thing is for sure: this news pleases Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick.
