GameStop has reversed its decision to refuse trade-ins for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, explaining that Capcom managed to convince it that accepting them won’t be an issue.
“GameStop did ask the US store base to stop accepting trades on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D as we evaluated the save system for the game,” said the company. “Upon further review of the process with our publisher partner, Capcom, GameStop will resume taking trades on the game effective Wednesday, June 29.”
However, UK retail chain HMV is not so forgiving, and won’t be accepting trade-ins for the game. It will stock the game when it launches in Britain on Friday, but it won’t buy any copies back. This is “to avoid any potential disappointment” from customers who realize all the content’s been unlocked and they have ludicrously high scores to beat.
Whatever Capcom said to GameStop, it’s not worked on a lot of others. Users are Amazon Bombing the game in protest, and I personally can’t support it monetarily. This has been a pretty big mess, and still Capcom refuses to give a definite answer as to why it made this weird decision.
