Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has been bigging up Aliens: Colonial Marines in PC Gamer, detailing the way in which the action will unfold. Gearbox is working hard to create two intense experiences, which he has labeled as “Last Stand” and “Gauntlet” sections.
“We’ve come up with language to define some of the tools we use for pacing,” he said. “Gauntlet Run: this is about getting from point A to point B and everthing’s going to be thrown in your way around you.
“Last Stand: this is when you’re in a defined area and we’re going to be pouring in aliens from all directions. That’s a pacing moment that can feel sometimes like Left 4 Dead or some of those great moments from Half-Life 2 where you’re setting a turret here and setting a turret there. These are really interesting wheen you add co-op into the mix.”
I’ve been saying for a long time that a new Aliens game could learn a thing or two from Left 4 Dead, so I’m quite pleased to see Randy namechecking it. As Destructoid’s resident Xenophile, I shall keep looking forward to this game and hoping for the best. I like to think I can trust Gearbox on this one.
