The Steam client for Ubuntu has shed its beta status and officially launched with more than 50 games that are 50 to 75 percent off through Wednesday, February 21 at 10:00am Pacific. Should you feel inclined to try it out, you can download Steam from the Ubuntu Software Center.

“We expect a growing number of game developers to include Ubuntu among their target platforms,” said Canonical director of consumer applications David Pitkin. “We’re looking forward to seeing AAA games developed with Ubuntu in mind as part of a multi-platform day and date release on Steam.”

And, yes, this wouldn’t be complete without some kind of Team Fortress 2 item. Now through the end of the month, players will earn the Linux mascot just by playing this version of the game. Tux can be carried by all classes and he’s freakin’ adorable.
