More than half of the awards, including Game of the Year
Game of the Year, Innovation Award, Best Audio, Best Game Design, Best Visual Arts, Best Downloadable Game. That’s 6 out of 11 total awards, and the game was ineligible for two of them (and I’m still not sure why it didn’t get a nod for Best Narrative). Journey and thatgamecompany rocked the house — perhaps unsurprisingly — at the 13th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards last night at the Game Developers Conference.
The nominee list for the GDCA fell in line quite nicely with Destructoid’s top games of 2012, though quite a few fringe or niche games got some welcomed recognition. At the least, the phenomenal Gravity Rush got a nomination for Best Handheld, though that prize ultimately went to Fireproof Games’ The Room.
Otherwise, anything that went up against Journey fell. Deservedly so. Except, interestingly, Dishonored, which won the Audience Award. I imagine the most vocal or frequent voters just didn’t want Journey to win seven awards, which is understandable, I suppose.
Check out the full list of winners, including the Lifetime Achievement winners, after the break.
