Crank and Crank: High Voltage were fun but extremely dumb movies. Gamer starring Gerard “Leonidas” Butler and Michael “Dexter” Hall was pretty much garbage with small glimmers of joy here and there. And for some reason, I’m really pumped for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. All were directed by the filmmaking duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who at the very least have demonstrated a genuine understanding of high-octane videogame action if not necessarily how to apply that to a cohesive movie.
Brian Taylor will be flying solo for an adaptation of Twisted Metal, the kind of the explosive, adrenaline-pumping violence porn that should be right up his alley. There’s a lot that can go wrong here, but if he can somehow sign Jason up Statham for the project, I might catch a matinee showing.
