Announced today is a summer 2012 release window for Noobz. If you don’t know what that is, Noobz is the story of four friends that travel across America as they do crazy things and compete in professional Gears of War 3 at the Cyberbowl tournament. The movie is using the tagline “a movie by gamers, for gamers.” Sound familiar? At any rate, the first official trailer for the film was released today, and it seemed like it was more making fun of gamers at first, but it is a comedy after all, so I’m sure it’s all meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
Noobz includes a somewhat notable cast, such as Jason Mewes (who of course played Jay in Kevin Smith’s “Askewniverse” films), Zelda Williams (known for being a huge gamer herself), and for whatever reason Adam Sessler (who’s famous for being Adam Sessler). The trailer seems a bit obnoxious and silly, and the whole idea of “gamer jokes” seems a bit much, but I think that was all intentional. We’ll just have to see for ourselves if Noobz is hit or miss this summer.
