My number-one question regarding Nintendo coming into E3 this year concerned what Retro Studios has in store for the future. According to an interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime conducted by IGN, the Metroid Prime Trilogy developer’s next project is still under wraps and Nintendo isn’t likely to unveil what they’re working on any time soon.
“If I disclosed what Retro is doing, I would have the president of Retro literally calling me right now saying, ‘Reggie, what are you doing?’ We love that people are interested. We love surprising people.”
“I remember getting the questions before we announced Donkey Kong Country Returns,” continues Fils-Aime. “And I loved unveiling that. So … Rest assured, the team is hard at work. But I’m not gonna tell you what they’re working on.”
In bringing Metroid to the third dimension and turning back the clock on the Donkey Kong Country series, the Austin-based developer has done incredible work with Nintendo’s existing intellectual properties in the past. Whatever they have up their collective sleeve, expectations couldn’t be higher.
