Grand theft subtlety: GTAV governor candidates are awful

“I hate immigrants, the crippled; I can’t stand unions, cops, old ladies”

Grand Theft Auto V is getting gubernatorial with these two political campaign videos. Former actor and stuntman Jock Stanley (above) is running against incumbent liberal and “successfully divorced school teacher” Sue Murry (below) for control of the state.

Of course, we know who really runs Los Santos: us. Talk about a videogame power fantasy. We can laugh at hypocritical and downright asinine political candidates with the comfort of knowing their rein on the digital landscape is hollow because we are The Player and we’re running things. A much better alternative to the crushing reality. Non-American readers, if you think this characterization is too blatant or on the nose, it’s because this is the extreme Rockstar needed to reach so it wouldn’t border eerily on passable.

Where is your vote going? I vote neither. I am going to burn this world to the ground. Raging against the machines and all that.
