Counter-Strike: GO gets new weapons, skins, and CRATES

And more importantly: keys!

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has just received a huge update which includes two new weapons, a lot of new weapon skins, and even crates and keys. The crates contain only skins, some of which will track the amount of kills scored with that weapon right on the skin itself. The new weapons are a silenced M4A1 and a silenced USP. Most CS fans will recognize these weapons from past games, and due to fan feedback, they’re back! And no, you don’t have to buy keys to get them, they’re just in the game now.

One of the new keys is the “eSports key,” combining my two favorite things: competitive gaming and in-game economies. A portion of all sales from the eSports key will “be redirected to fund prize purses at upcoming CS:GO eSport events worldwide.” I’m really glad to see Valve supporting the eSports scene by allowing fans to directly contribute to it. Also, I’m really glad they spelled it “eSports” and not any other variation.

What I’d really like to see is for CS:GO to get a spectator system similar to that found in Dota 2 to go along with the new menu system. Being able to jump in and spectate professional and non-professional players alike would go a long way to help boost the competitive scene for the game.

You can check out all the new goodness on the official update page.

I have previously written for AbleGamers.com and continue to support them whenever possible (like HumbleBundle).
