Vague details about Persona 5’s story sound like Persona

You are slave. Want emancipation?

Dengeki PlayStation has had some vague hints about the recently confirmed Persona 5. First off, apparently the shackled chairs are indeed part of a high school classroom, though the game is said to have a different mood than the past two.

Apparently, the characters, “will be living the hard lives of modern-day society, where each one of them will be restrained by something.” It doesn’t necessarily sound too different from past Persona games, given that many of their characters were struggling against some kind of societal or personal restraint. Similarly, the theme of “catharsis” is a familiar one, too.

So…okay. Fine. This is really little to go on. I was hoping for at least a university setting this go around to bump up the age bracket. Anime and Japanese games seem to both have this common idea that you go through all your life’s ills as a teenager and then are a perfectly healthy adult for the rest of your life.

Still, I’m sure it will be fabulous just the same, with the same director, composer, and art director from P3 and P4. What are these modern ills that will sweep the characters? Budget crises? Healthcare reform? Having too many good videogames to play?
