Because overall PlayStation 3 sales have hit just under 4 million consoles worldwide, Sony hasn’t reached their self-imposed holy grail number of 6 million by the end of the latest financial year. Since many predicted that might happen with the PS3’s hefty price tag, a few analysts believed a price cut was on the horizon to try and balance out Sony’s checkbooks. Well, like most of the time, they were wrong. Sony has released this statement in response to more talk of a price cut:
“PS3 prices and shipment plans for the future should be determined by market trends and competition. Sony currently doesn’t have any specific plan to cut the PlayStation 3’s price.”
Expect a price cut around the time Halo 3 comes out. Either that, or Sony must really think they’re completely untouchable. Either way, expect a price cut around holiday shopping season.
