But hey, the free Steam weekend is okay
This weekend, Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ multiplayer will be free to play on Steam and the game is half price ($29.99) to own. There’s also double XP being offered, from February 21 at 10:00am to Feb. 24 at 10:00am. These are all things I was somewhat happy to talk about.
Then I got wind of this week’s customization DLC for Ghosts, shown in the trailer above, and I’m rather put off. Yes, this stuff is surely going to make money as cosmetic DLC for popular multiplayer games tends to, but I feel obligated to call out its grossness.
First are the personalization packs — Circuit, Ducky, Inferno, and Space Cats — at $1.99 each. Kind of sloppy looking, but okay. Next, character skins straight out of Ghosts‘ campaign are being sold at $1.99 a pop; those are Keegan, Merrick, Hesh, and Elias. That same amount of money can also get you four extra Create-a-Soldier loadout slots in the Extra Slots Pack.
Lastly, there’s Captain Price. He’s playable in multiplayer with the same sort of personalized items — a custom player patch, background, card, and reticule — if you scrounge up $3.99. To each their own, but having bought crap like this before, it almost always ends in regret.
