TellTale discusses season 1’s broken saves and what it’s doing to prevent the issue in Season 2
Many celebrated Telltale’s Walking Dead series up to its season finale, despite the prevalent issue across platforms of users losing saves between episodes. Telltale CEO Dan Connors said, in an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, this issue was unavoidable in producing season 1 and will not be a problem when players jump into season 2.
“I think in season two, we’re going to be a lot more diligent about making sure that part of the system can handle everything that’s going to happen,” Connors said. “Now we know how people are going to do this and how they’re going to use this and how it’s going to appear to people. I think we’ll have some good systems in place to make sure that it’s great in the next season.”
Connors confirmed that season 1 saves will carryover to season 2, so it’s a good thing that he is taking a more careful approach in how saves transfer on each platform. Save bugs on PC and consoles led to many players losing progress and key plot decisions that defined their experience once but no more (I was one of these survivors — NEVER FORGET!!!)
Connors continued: “We’ve certainly learned from that and said, ‘Next time out, procedurally, these things are going to be very robust and it’s not going to allow for someone to require data from four in order for them to have the fix that fixes two.'”
