Infinity Ward announces Call of Duty: Ghosts for next-gen

Full reveal happening this month at the Xbox event

If nothing else, the teasers for Call of Duty: Ghosts left almost as quickly as they arrived. Although we now have the official word on this Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and next-generation title from Infinity Ward, there are still plenty of unanswered questions. Offering little in the way of actual details, the announcement describes Ghosts as having an “all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast of characters, all powered by a new, next generation Call of Duty engine.” It’s launching on November 5, 2013.

For what it’s worth, I like the sound of that last part; finally, a new engine. Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin has referred to Ghosts as “a new sub-brand,” saying: “Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels.”

How different will this be, really, from the existing games? We’ll find out later. If it’s as much of a change as Modern Warfare was, I’d be down. Ghosts will be debut during the May 21 reveal of the next Xbox airing on Xbox.com, Xbox Live, and Spike TV.
