It would take seven DVDs to put Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 360
The Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection is all set for a 2013 release later this year on two Blu-Ray discs — for the PlayStation 3 that is. When asked why there wouldn’t be a 360 version on his radio show, series creator Hideo Kojima shed some light on the subject, stating, “I’m sorry to say an Xbox 360 version isn’t being released, because an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 hasn’t gone on sale. To explain the situation, the amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous.”
In a nutshell, Kojima wants every main series entry to be presented here, and if he can’t go all the way, he doesn’t want to do it at all. Kojima goes on to clarify that a potential Xbox 360 release of Metal Gear Solid 4 would take up seven DVDs, which pretty much isn’t an option at this time.
Here’s the interesting part — Kojima follows-up on a potential release for the next Xbox, saying, “When it’s the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release it. If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it’s not The Legacy Collection.” Obviously we have no clue what the next generation entails, but it’ll be interesting to see how the Xbox vs. PlayStation battle for exclusivity goes with this franchise. I remember the uproar when the Xbox had timed exclusivity on Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.
