Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Marth. Are they or aren’t they discontinued?

Recently, we’ve obtained conflicting information from Nintendo, PR, and multiple retail locations, so it’s really hard to tell — but we have a few more developments. One of our readers wrote into Nintendo’s costumer service system, noting that he was a “long time Nintendo fan,” and that the discontinued amiibo situation was “extremely disappointing.”

This is what Nintendo wrote back:

“Thanks for writing. I’m sorry to hear you haven’t been able to locate certain amiibo. I will make sure the appropriate departments at Nintendo are aware of your inquiry. Some amiibo were very popular at launch, but be assured that we have not discontinued any. It is possible that some amiibo in the United States, Canada and Latin America may not be available right now due to high demand and our efforts to manage shelf space during the launch period, but may return to these markets at a later stage. We are continually aiming to always have a regular supply of amiibo in the marketplace and there are many waves of amiibo to come. The distribution and availability of amiibo in other regions around the world may be different.”

That’s after Toys”R”Us stated that they were no longer carrying those three, among reports from other, smaller retailers. To add fuel to the fire, I spoke with a trusted source at GameStop, and was told that “those three are no longer in the system country-wide, and we are no longer getting more stock in them indefinitely.” Whatever the case may be, these three are rare, so if you can find them somewhere, get them.

I also obtained some information about the amiibo Wave 2 set. According to my source, GameStop as a whole is no longer taking pre-orders on them, and they are not going to be restocked until after the holidays. Additionally, the Wave 2 figures will be broken up in many locations in the US. Three figures will be coming sometime in the next five days, and the rest will arrive later this month.

If you’re a collector, I’d make the effort to try and track down some pre-orders right now online — Amazon still has a few Wave 2 pre-orders left.
