‘It’s a good problem to have’
Production on Oculus Rift development kits is going to come to a temporary standstill in the very near future. According to a post on reddit by Oculus VR, certain components that are used in the Oculus Rift are no longer being manufactured, meaning that the company will soon run out of the necessary resources.
However, Oculus VR is currently looking for new suppliers for these components in order to keep up with demand. The company mentioned that it’s keeping a reserve stock of parts around to dedicate specifically to returns under warranty.
Despite the halt to production, Oculus VR doesn’t necessarily view the situation negatively. It commented “We never expected to sell so many development kits and VR only made this much progress with the community’s support and enthusiasm. Even though we never wanted to sell out, it’s a good problem to have.”
