Scented meat?
One-time Ouya-exclusive Towerfall got an enhanced PC and PS4 release this year and it was a good one, allowing the wonderful game to thrive more than it ever could have hoped on the Ouya. Towerfall creator Matt Thorson told Eurogamer that it is selling best on the PS4, though it’s doing well on PC. It sold about 7,000 Ouya copies. Across all three platforms, it’s grossed about $500k; or, “enough for me to support myself for quite awhile,” as Thorson said.
“I think it’s just a console game, ya know? People have controllers – it’s not confusing to get the controllers like it is for PC – and people have it in their living rooms already. I think a lot of people still sit down with their friends when they play their consoles, whereas they don’t do that on PC. Even if it’s a single-player game. I know me and my friends will sit down and one of us will be playing a game while everyone else is just hanging out.”
Thorson also noted “support from Sony” was integral to the good sales.”They’ve featured and promoted it really well,” he said.
Hopefully this reminds developers and publishers that local co-op has kind of always been console gaming’s raison d’être and we’d like to see more of it, please and thank you.
