The Saber Rider dev
As we all know by now, Yacht Club Games is getting a Shovel Knight amiibo for use in the Wii U and 3DS editions of the game. But in an unexpected turn, it is responsible for every bit of its release, including manufacturing. There’s quite a bit of risk involved, but if all it requires developers to do is license out the brand and tech, it opens the doors for other teams as well.
That’s just what the developers of Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs want to do, on the heels of launching their Kickstarter for their reworked 3DS version of the game. According to project lead Chris Strauss, their amiibo design has a “good chance” of getting approved, and are already in the process of creating a 3D model.
It begins… the new wave of amiibo. I wonder if these will be in-demand since they aren’t technically a Nintendo product, and if these indie devs will be able to meet said demand. I mean think about it — once these are out of print, I doubt a smaller team will be able to bring them back into the fold.
