Lt. Morales is the dedicated healer Heroes of the Storm needed

Not a hybrid

Kharazim is probably my favorite character in Heroes of the Storm at the moment, but it’s about time that we got the StarCraft healer we’ve always wanted with Lt. Morales, the Medic. With a number of supports essentially functioning as damage-dealing hybrids, and others seeing nerfs, the game desperately needed another dedicated support character.

If you’re into healing, you’ll probably dig the Medic quite a bit.

Let’s start with the Medic’s most essential ability, her Q — Healing Beam. Much like the medic class or weapons in classic FPS games, it shoots out a tether that heals an ally as long as you’re in range. It’s simple and fun to use, especially when you have a Warrior friend tanking structures — I’ve actually outhealed the amount of damage a tower was doing to a Leoric, for instance. You can also very easily switch between targets as needed, and it’s insanely intuitive.

The fact that Healing Beam has no cooldown means that you can literally always be doing something. You don’t even really need to heal yourself also due to your self-restoration trait, and your W, Safeguard, works as a shield of sorts that can be used in tandem with the Q. You can even eliminate over-healing with a special trait that grants a shield when a teammate is at full health when using the beam, in addition to the proactive Safeguard ability. Her E (a skillshot grenade) is also surprisingly effective. It doesn’t do a whole lot of damage, but it does knockback multiple enemies, leaving them open for the rest of your team (or helping with a calculated escape).

The Medic’s heroic abilities are interesting as well — Stim Drone, and Medivac Dropship. The former is a basic buff that can jack up an ally for a period of time, but the latter really has the potential to be a game-changer. Simply put, it places a Dropship that allies can click on to travel a large distance (roughly half the map), which is set by the Medic. I’ve seen it make a huge difference when it comes to objective play, as a team who initially screwed up and didn’t see a particular hot zone can instantly just jump to it and change the tide.

I don’t generally play dedicated support classes in games, but the Medic is so fun that I’ll definitely be volunteering for the role should my usual group of friends require it. After all, I need to work up to get that Samus Aran Master skin eventually. Lt. Morales is currently available in the PTR realm, and will be added to the game proper in the near future.
