Yoshida: ‘We ask you to wait.’
The Last Guardian remains everyone’s favorite bit of apparent vaporware; the game that’s always teased as every E3 rolls around, but never fully realized. In fact, it just wouldn’t be E3 without some mention of the veritable unicorn of the industry. Eurogamer, ready to go headfirst into the fire in the name of clarity, spoke with Sony Computer Entertainment’s president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida in attempt to make some headway on the subject. During their interview, Eurogamer inquired if he would be willing to shed some light on the situation for the droves of fans and journalists who are consistently in the dark.
Before E3, there was a bit of confusion surrounding whether or not The Last Guardian had actually been canceled after a report went up on IGN that it was actually no longer in development. Yoshida was “so happy” the announcement was retracted before the show, going on to say that the situation with The Last Guardian is still “the same message” we receive year after year.
Yoshida went on to explain his statement: “Lots of people tweeted me they were heartbroken by that news [prior to the show]. People are going through this roller coaster of emotions, and it’s our fault for not releasing the game, yet. We owe a lot to those people, but we really don’t want to release piecemeal information until we can say this is The Last Guardian – so we ask you to wait.”
So, Last Guardian hopefuls, you know what to do. Hurry up and keep waiting.
