And here I am still playing with 2e books I buy at consignment stores
The new edition of the venerable Dungeons & Dragons tabletop RPG kicks off its lineup with the Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set. Think of this as the demo to the full game, as it includes a 64-page adventure book with everything a group of 4-6 needs to get started, a 32-page rulebook for playing characters from level 1 to 5, 5 pre-generated characters with accompaning character sheets and supporting reference material, and 6 dice.
However, if you’re looking to get your roleplay on the cheap or if the recession never really ended for you, there is also a free download at the official site of the basic D&D rules so you can continue the adventure you began in the Starter Set all the way to level 20.
The Starter Set is available now for $19.99. Expect the core books and adventure books to start dropping with the beginning of the Tyranny of Dragons storyline spanning over the entire spectrum of D&D gaming and the release of the Player’s Handbook on August 19.
