Get outta my dreams
The latest Kickstarter update for Heart Forth, Alicia is a lot to get through.
There’s been a delay — from Q1 2016 to the second half of the year — but rather than just give a basic explanation for the change of plans, the developers have shared a detailed end-of-year summary. Much has changed for the metroidvania RPG since its crowdfunding drive ended.
There’s a new aspect ratio, for one. And the introduction, originally created by a single developer, has been revamped. “The first chapter of the game is now more action-oriented, has a bunch of memorable imagery, and is by far much more dramatic than its previous iteration,” reads the post.
There are also some new mechanics. Alicia can swap between spells on the fly and carry items (or chuck them at unassuming slimes). NPCs will tag along. Cutscenes are said to now be more “dynamic,” while the story in general has become “more engaging, exciting, and concise.”
With all of that said (and I didn’t even cover every bullet point!), the delay was inevitable.
“Your generosity has given us an opportunity not many indie game developers get, so our first priority is to release an experience that will be memorable and worth your wait,” said designer Alonso Martin. “Unlike as within the game itself, we won’t get a second chance to get things right, so we’re striving to produce something that we’re satisfied with and are proud of.”
I wish this team the best of luck. If Alicia comes together like I hope it will, it’s going to be fantastic.
