The game is still in closed beta
Just over two months after its most recent layoff announcement, Gigantic developer Motiga has announced another round of redundancies. Motiga CEO Chris Chung made the announcement on the site’s official blog earlier today, citing the studio’s “financial situation” as the reason behind the departures.
“While we intend to continue supporting Gigantic game services for as long as we are able, the reality is that a decision of this magnitude will impact all departments across the studio, an impact that will be felt by our community of beta testers as the services they depend on will operate without the key staff on hand to support those services,” Chung wrote.
Motiga is currently looking for investors to support the company while it continues work on Gigantic, but it did not secure funding in time to protect the jobs of those affected. According to fellow Destructoid writers, the NDA on the Gigantic beta recently lifted, allowing both press and ordinary players to speak openly about their experience with the game.
Gigantic was recently shown during E3 2015 at Microsoft’s press conference, where the game was touted as an Xbox One console exclusive. It’s currently unknown how much — if anything — Microsoft spent on the game, but it seems like it wasn’t enough to keep the studio afloat in the meantime.
