Dr. Mario is the least loved of the Marios

Some people make it a hobby to find out everything they can about a game, inside and out, and these data miners have been poring over the code of Super Smash Bros. since release. Over the last couple of months, bits and pieces pointing to cut content have been found, seemingly confirming director Masahiro Sakurai’s claims that there was a rush to get the game out on time.

This video from GameXplain has a good rundown on much of the data, including:

  • A possible Dr. Mario stage
  • A cut assist trophy featuring the Viruses from Dr. Mario
  • The possibility that the Chorus Men from Rhythm Heaven were slated to be a fighter character
  • Animations for unused moves

I think the game is great as is, but it would have been cool to have even more stuff. Maybe this cut data is a window into the next iteration of the Super Smash Bros. series.
