See how the Final Fantasy XII PS4 remaster measures up to the original

PS4 versus PS2, fight!

What’s the best part about getting a remaster? The comparison videos of course!

And YouTube user Cycu1 has done just that for Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, matching up the new remastered footage on PS4 with the original on PS2. All told it doesn’t look like that much of an improvement (the original still looks good!), but you know what? As long as the game is intact, and the International version content is in there (it is), I’m good.

Final Fantasy XII is a long-forgotten relic in many ways. XIII created so much ire for the series that some people have checked out entirely, and XI alienated some core fans by nature of being an MMO (some tenets of which XII adopted wholesale). It also didn’t help that the PS3 came out mere months after XII was released, leaving it to a similar fate as Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 on NES, and Minish Cap on the Game Boy Advance — unable to fully spread its wings in the shadow of a newer, shinier console.

It’ll be really interesting to see how it’s received when it drops in 2017.
