I’d love to see him do a new IP
[Update: Hideo Kojima has confirmed that his contract with Konami was terminated as of December 15, 2015, and that he has established an independent studio called, heh, Kojima Productions. Its first game is a “new franchise” that will be console exclusive to PlayStation 4.]
According to Nikkei, game designer Hideo Kojima is forming his own studio.
That might seem like an obvious next move for the Metal Gear Solid creator now that he’s officially out at Konami (the “vacation” has ended!), but I kind of like the idea of him saying “eff it,” retiring early, and spending the rest of his days living it up in cinemas. That seems like his happy place.
Reportedly, Kojima is bringing along some of his old staff for this new venture and will debut his next game on PlayStation, pending final negotiations with Sony. Konami controls the Metal Gear property, so I think it’s safe to say The Phantom Pain is indeed his farewell to the series.
