‘We’re very, very close’
Dirt Rally developer Codemasters is hoping to hit 1080p and 60fps when the racer releases on consoles later this year.
“We’re very, very close [to 1080p/60fps] on PS4,” chief game designer Paul Coleman told Videogamer. “We’ve still got a little bit more work to do on Xbox One. But, you know, I think that’s fair to say that for everyone out there, PS4 is certainly a little bit easier to get this stuff running smoothly.”
Though the target for Xbox One remains “a bit touch and go,” Coleman confirmed that if the studio was unable to make it work with “troublemaker scenarios” like heavy snow, they’ll adopt a dynamic resolution approach rather than drop it to 900p across the whole game.
“[The Xbox One version] doesn’t look like we’ve stripped it back or anything,” he added. “It looks much the same as the PS4 version. I think it’s just that it’s been easier for us to get PS4 working at the performance we’ve been hoping for.”
“But ultimately I want to be running at 1080p/60fps wherever we can.”
Dirt Rally is scheduled to release on PlayStation and Xbox One on April 5, 2016.
