A ‘4D’ Mass Effect ride at California’s Great America
California’s Great America is making space great again with Mass Effect: New Earth: A 4D Holographic Journey. Destructoid drove an hour south to arid Santa Clara, across from the San Francisco 49er’s travesty of a football stadium, to learn about, “what the Mass Effect universe smells like,” at an eerily empty amusement park.
Because the 4th “D” is smell.
It’s not too different from other rides that spray air on your feet while you watch a 3D video led by a real-life actor/host in the foreground, except that there was a lot more sticks poking up from the seat than I remember in the equivalent Honey We Shrunk The Kids ride at Disneyland or the old Jurassic Park ride at Marine World (an hour north of San Francisco, whatever the hell it’s called now) — and none of them have yet topped the old Back to the Future experience at Universal Studios, which moves a heck of a lot more.
Anyways, please watch this lovely video we made about our road trip. Extra thanks as always to our camera man and editor Kenny Redublo (of A la cartridge fame).
