Since its release in 2015, the mobile game Super Robot Wars X-Ω has been chugging along, adding more and more franchises to its ever-growing cast list. Every so often, a new addition comes out of left field, such as Little Witch Academia or  Idolmaster. On Wednesday, the official twitter account for the game announced another one of these picks in the form of Mega Man characters.

Can’t say anyone saw that coming, that’s for sure.

So far, the official site for the game has confirmed that Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass will be obtainable during the event. It’s important to note however that while there will likely be a Mega Man-themed scenario to play through, this is a gacha game. So if you’re going in with the mindset of “Oh I’ll put up with the lack of translations due to Mega Man content”, you’re going to have to be very lucky if you’re hoping to use the actual characters.

This is an amazing opportunity for the franchise though. The biggest advantage of crossovers isn’t just the concept, but also that it will potentially bring new eyes onto a series that that may have ignored before. Not only that, but this is also the biggest crossover roster the franchise has ever been a part of, with over 50 franchises taking part. To put this in perspective, here are some of the series that have been a part of Super Robot Wars X-Ω to date.

  • Mazinger Z
  • Getter Robo
  • Mobile Suit Gundam
  • Macross
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • Gurren Lagann
  • Godzilla
  • Idolmaster
  • Sakura Wars
  • Little Witch Academia

Yeah, that’s not the usual crowd the Blue Bomber hangs around with, that’s for sure. This almost certainly means our boy will be getting attention from people that wouldn’t normally give the franchsie the time of day. If this means potentially more sales for next year’s Mega Man 11, then I’m all for him showing up in more games.
