It tops 15 million players
Overwatch has added quite the exclamation point to Activision Blizzard’s financial statement. The publisher just released its most recent investors’ report, and the success of Blizzard’s multiplayer shooter has led to record revenues for Activision in the second quarter.
According to the report, Activision’s revenue for the quarter ending on June 30, 2016 was $1.57 billion. Compared to last year, that’s an increase of 50 percent. Activision’s digital revenues were also record-setting, as the company brought in more than $1.14 billion.

Activision also cites “deep engagement” with players as a main contributing factor in this short-term success. Overwatch has topped 15 million players (that’s not necessarily units sold), and they’ve logged more than 500 million hours playing. Cumulatively, people have spent more than 10 billion hours playing Activision Blizzard games during quarter two. That includes the likes of Overwatch, Call of Duty, Destiny, and Candy Crush.
