Rise of the Tomb Raider’s PS4 port seems fine

One of 2015’s best games comes to the PS4

The technical wizards at Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry managed to get their hands on Rise of the Tomb Raider’s upcoming PlayStation 4 port at gamescom, and they seem pleased with their findings. Square Enix was showing off the upcoming release in Germany, so these impressions come from hands-on experience. Unfortunately, the footage shown appears to be publisher provided b-roll, not direct capture.

Based on the available footage, it appears that Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s frame rate has been locked at 30 for this port, instead of being unlocked like we had been lead to believe. Additionally, Digital Foundry notes any input lag encountered during aiming on the Xbox One version has been smoothed out for this PS4 release. For what it’s worth, I never noticed any lag during my time with the game, but it’s good to hear that won’t be an issue for anyone going forward.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration (as it’s known on PS4) will come with all available DLC, including Blood Ties, a mission that takes place exclusively in Croft Manor. According to a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Blood Ties can be played in first-person on PlayStation VR. (Also, there’s a zombies mode, because we’re still not done with zombies I guess?) The port hits October 11 — if you haven’t had the chance to play Rise of the Tomb Raider, I recommend you take this opportunity to do so. It’s a very well-made Uncharted-like.
