If you played RPGs during the Playstation’s heyday, you likely remember Xenogears, a superlative action RPG from Square. I waited with baited breath for Xenosaga, hoping it would compare to that other game’s quality, but it didn’t quite live up to what I hoped for, only enhancing that golden glow around Xenogears in my memory.
While Sega’s upcoming fantasy RPG World Destruction isn’t the new Xenogears, it may be as close as fans of the original game will ever get: Writer Masato Kato, character designer Kunihiko Tanaka, and composer Yasunori Mitsuda are all on board, which certainly points in a positive direction. The title is being developed by Image Epoch, who also did the Luminous Arc series.
You can see lots of screens over at Famitsu, who also report that the game’s release will be accompanied by an anime series as well. The story revolves around two main characters named Kyrie and Morute who become a part of an organization called “Destruction of the World.” Sega, if you do not make sure this game comes to America, I will come over to Japan and hunt your children. Don’t fail me.
