The Lex (Photoshop) Express
Hi-Rez Studios have apologised for a snafu that caused official Overwatch art to feature in an advertisment for their own hero-based, online, arena-shooter, Paladins.
In the offending piece of artwork, Paladins’ Champion Lex is seen against a backdrop of a night sky over a hazy metropolis. Not just any metropolis, however, as it’s actually Overwatch’s Li-Jiang Tower map. Y’know, the one with the boxed-in room, where you just sit a Bastion in the corner with Rein and you’re done?
Hi-Rez have defended the situation as an honest mistake. The game’s Art Director stated: “This art was created by a overseas partner studio for Paladins Strike and had not much in the way of oversight in its content creation by anyone internally at Hi-Rez. We will be looking into this immediately.”
Blizzard themselves are yet to comment on the situation. The whole gaff having been unearthed by community members. Regardless, Hi-Rez have said that, moving forward, they hope to create Paladins splash art that is “more unique” and will “allow us to control content creation better with a larger quality of output to boot”.
