Publisher to boost smaller studios’ reach
Natsume Inc, publisher of the Harvest Moon and Reel Fishing titles, has announced a new program designed to help smaller developers get their wares out into the big, wide world. The Natsume Indie Program will see the publisher team with indie studios to “introduce creative, innovative games to a wider audience”.
The first of these releases is set to be Cosmic Defenders for the Nintendo Switch. Developed by Tokyo’s one-man-studio Fiery Squirrel, Cosmic Defenders is described by Natsume as “a 2D fast-paced revolving shooter about a group of unconventional heroes using the power of nature to stop chaotic aliens from taking over the universe”.
Hopefully, through the Natsume Indie Program, more studios like Fiery Squirrel will be able to use the publisher’s experience and resources to get their games out onto the market, allowing them a reach further than what they might achieve on their own. These projects are almost always beneficial to the industry and its creators. Good for you, Natsume.
More information on Cosmic Defenders will be available at this year’s E3 event.
