Everything that happened at Microsoft’s X018 event

Microsoft just wrapped X018, its “celebration of all things Xbox.” What went down? A lot of crowd cheering, an on-stage selfie with Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto, and a release date for Crackdown 3.

While much of the show’s news was Game Pass-centric as you’d probably expect, there were a few surprises. Microsoft closed out the Mexico City-based event with two more notable studio acquisitions: Fallout: New Vegas maker Obsidian and Wasteland 2 creator inXile Entertainment. These teams join the likes of Playground Games, Undead Labs, Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, and The Initiative.

X018 was uneven at times as certain segments dragged on way longer than they needed to, but that back-and-forth pacing kind of comes with the territory for these shows. For better or worse, the stream felt like a longer, more energetic, fan-focused version of the normal Inside Xbox showcases.
