As expected!
A fighting game set in the League of Legends universe seems like a no-brainer for Riot Games. While the company hasn’t said that exact scenario is happening, a new fighting game is officially coming.
The annual fighting game tournament Evo is now underway in Las Vegas, and during an on-stream appearance, Tom Cannon – one of the founders of Evo and a current Riot Games employee – said his team is “working on a fighting game for Riot.” He also called it the “worst-kept secret in the universe.”

Depending on how familiar you are with Cannon, this all might sound vaguely familiar.
Back in 2011, Tom Cannon and his brother, Tony, formed Radiant Entertainment, whose second project was a robotic fighting game (pictured in this article) called Rising Thunder. In 2016, Riot Games acquired Radiant, and yeah – you can probably see where this is going. The team has stayed mum until now.
“The reason why we did Rising Thunder in the first place was because we felt like fighting games just deserve to be enjoyed by way more people,” Cannon said at Evo 2019. “As big as things are, we think it has the potential to get bigger.” Rising Thunder‘s whole premise was good netcode and accessibility.
The real story here isn’t so much that Riot Games is making a fighter, which has long been presumed, it’s the fact that the project is still alive in 2019. Speaking to IGN, a representative for Riot added: “We’re working hard to create a game truly worthy of the vibrant fighting game community and are making progress, but still have a long way to go before we’re ready to share more details.”
Would you be down for a LoL fighting game? There’s so much potential.
