This data-mined list looks pretty compelling
It feels inevitable that Nintendo will add a curated list of SNES games to Nintendo Switch Online, a subscription service that currently (and disappointingly) offers only NES titles as one of its perks. When the day comes, I’m putting everything I’m playing on hold so I can relive a major part of my childhood.
We aren’t any closer to knowing when Nintendo Switch Online might get a Super Nintendo collection, but if a recent data-mined list is anything to go by, we do know what to expect from the selection.
Over the weekend, Twitter user KapuccinoHeck poked around “NES Online’s strings a bit” and discovered what appears to be at least a partial list of planned SNES games. If you were bitten by the nostalgia bug and snagged a cute lil SNES Classic console, you’re going to see a lot of familiar names.

Assuming the data is genuine and plans don’t change, I wouldn’t be too bummed if this is missing certain games you’d like to have on Switch. (EarthBound, Donkey Kong Country 2, the list goes on…)
Nintendo has slowly but surely expanded the NES lineup for Nintendo Switch Online since launch, and there’s no reason to think the company wouldn’t take a similar approach here, vexing as the drip-feed can be. I could easily put more time into this SNES starting lineup than the current NES roster. Tecmo Bowl is eternal, don’t get me wrong, but I sure could go for some Demon’s Crest on my Switch.
Looking further out, there’s also speculation about other emulators for Nintendo Switch Online.
If these are strings, this more than likely an enum to strings function, and there is actually only one more emulator, count would be the total count of emulators, where the enums would be:
Kachikachi = 0
Canoe = 1
Hiyoko = 2
Count = 3This is common in programming.

Having seen so many videos/news articles stating “2 NEW EMULATORS” already I guess I need to clarify myself that “Count” is likely NOT an actual emulator but rather a counter for the internal number of emulators.

So, NES, then SNES, and eventually N64 (or maybe GBA)? I hope that isn’t wishful thinking.
As someone who hasn’t played a single online round of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and only dabbles in the NES offerings, I think Nintendo needs to pick up the pace on these classic-game initiatives.
Nintendo Switch Online is inexpensive enough that I don’t mind staying subscribed long-term, but it’s tough not to have sky-high expectations when you know how amazing the service could be with a more fleshed-out lineup. Nintendo’s back catalog is far too rich to go this underutilized.
