Sega Ages: Virtua Racing includes an eight-player split-screen mode

Works in docked and portable, too

Sega Ages: Virtua Racing is now available on the Japanese eShop and it contains an incredibly unique feature. In an effort to replicate the linked arcade experience, you can play in eight-player split-screen versus in both docked and portable play. I have no idea how you’d even be able to see your screen in portable, but that is an incredibly cool feature to add.

As well as that, M2 has worked its magic and created a 60 FPS experience for racing. While anything above two players will drop the framerate to 30 FPS, that is still a huge improvement over the arcade original. Online multiplayer is also present, which should give the game some longevity over the years. I can’t believe we’ve progressed to the point where we can finally play Virtua Racing online.

While there is no word on a Western release just yet, a lot of the previous Sega Ages ports have released on the North American eShop. Each one I’ve looked at has been exceptionally well done, so I have no doubt Virtua Racing on Switch has become the definitive way to play the game. For now, we’ll just have to marvel at the trailer and the ridiculous eight-player mode.
