Monster Cash
There’s just no slowing down Monster Hunter: World from its continued success. Already the best-selling Capcom release of all time, the publisher has also announced that its 2019 expansion Iceborne has just passed the five million sales mark.
Released back in September on PS4 and Xbox One, before arriving on PC a little later in January, Iceborne adds snowy tundras, new gear and monstrous new prey to the already expansive Monster Hunter: World map. Bringing devastating creatures such as the Stygian Zinogre, Furious Rajang and Safi’jiiva, Iceborne is a true test of even the most hardened hunter’s abilities. And given its frosty aesthetic, it also made a snug fit for crossovers with Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn.
While Monster Hunter is a popular brand and World was an anticipated game, I’m not sure anyone quite saw it hitting this record-breaking level of success. Monster Hunter: World has shifted some 15 million copies – that’s a legitimate phenomenon for what has always been considered a relatively cult franchise. No doubt this success has secured the future of the Monster Hunter brand for generations to come.
…Y’know, unless that movie kills all of its street cred.
