Panasonic works on Wii-proof plasma TVs

Recommended Videos

It seems that electronics company Panasonic has taken notice of the high number of idiots that can’t keep ahold of their Wii Remotes. They could just continue making and selling regular televisions, citing their locked down warranty policies when people call for repair. But they’re doing the right thing, and now they’re showing off a new plasma that can take a pummeling.

This set has a specially-treated glass front panel can withstand an attack measuring around 4 joules of energy. I have no idea what a joule is, but Crave tells us that 1 joule of energy would be enough to lift one small apple. There you have it: this new set can take up to four apple liftings-worth of energy to the screen.

They debuted this TV at a 2008 product showcase in Valencia, where Crave says that they hit this and a standard LCD set with 4 joules of energy. It looks like the plasma was fine, while the LCD sustained some damage from the mini wrecking ball.

I’d say save your cash and you’ll be fine. Don’t play drunk, use your Wii strap and condoms, and don’t flail your $40-a-piece controllers around like a fu*king idiot. If that’s too hard for you, maybe you should look into this new display.

[Thanks, JR]
