343 is using Halo 4 as an opportunity to bring a bunch of features to the whole Master Chief Collection suite. It’ll introduce input-based matchmaking, crossplay between PC and Xbox One (available in competitive multiplayer, Forge, and Firefight), server region selection, and advanced text chat options.
It’s expected that after a few weeks of testing, Halo 4 will launch proper. It’s expected to run $10 as a standalone purchase; it’s also rolled into the $40 complete Master Chief Collection Then — with Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, and Halo 4 all in one package — it will be finished on PC.
