Will Wright needs a DS to wake up with

Iconic game designer Will Wright loves his Nintendo DS. In fact, it’s one of his favorite systems and if he doesn’t have it with him, he confesses to waking up groggy in the morning. That’s actually a little weird and creepy, but let’s see what he has to say regardless:

“I play with my DS a lot, especially Advance Wars. It’s one of my favorite platforms actually. The thing I love about the DS is I can turn it on, play a game for a few minutes, save and turn it back off. I call it interstitial gaming: it’s filling in the little blank spots in my life. About a month ago, I misplaced my DS for a week, and noticed I actually felt groggier in the mornings! I realized that it had become a key part of my waking up process – my brain’s startup mechanism. It’s interesting to me how these games can without us even realizing make tiny little adjustments to our mental state.”

Yeah, that still strikes me as weird and creepy, but I’m not the one designing ridiculously popular simulation games that make millions of dollars, so who am I to question the man’s brain?

Weirdo.
