Also, there’s a new short
The Sonic 2 streaming date has come! If you didn’t catch the most successful (domestically) video game adaptation yet, you can now. As of this week, it’s currently on Paramount Plus (US) — and a trial period or a one-month subscription is likely less than buying it digitally elsewhere. It’s coming to Blu-ray and physical form on August 9.
Also, note that to celebrate the Sonic 2 streaming release, a new short called “Sonic Drone Home” is being teased (which you can peruse below) that comes with digital purchases (or is available on YouTube). While it does feature Ben Schwartz reprising his role as Sonic from the feature films, sadly, Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey do not appear to return as Knuckles and Tails respectively. As far as the animation goes, hopefully this is a sign of things to come for the Knuckles TV show.
Having finally caught Sonic 2 yesterday, like the first film, it was a pleasant surprise. While the live-action characters sometimes stop the narrative dead in its tracks, I appreciated the focus on Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and Jim Carrey is always a delight. I’m really curious who they’re going to cast for that post-credits tease character — and how they’re going to handle the edge!
