Avalanche Studios, developer of Just Cause, is in the process of terminating 77 employees in light of losing two major publishing contracts. Once complete, the team will consist of 83 members, all of which happy they didn’t lose their jobs. Despite the layoffs, Avalanche will continue to work on Just Cause 2 and their other announced title, The Hunter.
According to Avalanche’s CEO Christofer Sundberg, the studio became “industrialized and impersonal” before the loss of the two publishing contracts. Sundberg didn’t comment why he decided to lose the contracts before tossing his admittedly bloated team, but we’re sure he had just cause to wait.
Avalanche is based in Sweden, which is a great country for skiing and chocolate. Sweden also borders Norway, where the fishing is amazing. Just Cause 2 and The Hunter’s release dates have yet to be confirmed, but in light of recent events, we’re sure the titles are well on their way.
