Cross-dressing performers, you say? Well, in Japan that’s not necessarily scandalous — Kabuki theatre has been featuring such gender-bending activity since its origin in 1603. The Takarazuka Revue is a Japanese musical theatre troupe that performs mostly lavish Western-style productions, with a sprinkling of originals, manga and novel adaptions. Come next February, they will take on the Phoenix Wright series, adding some considerable sex appeal by cross-dressing as the majority of the characters.
Worth noting: the production will present Phoenix Wright with his English name, rather than Ryuichi Naruhodo, which is the character’s Japanese name. He will be played by actress Ranju Tomu, who is quite lovely with or without her man makeup if you ask me.
Coolest thing ever, or COOLEST THING EVER? Attention Chad Concelmo: you want to split a hotel room in Japan with me so we can go see this? Afterwards, we’ll learn all the music and do a special edition of RetroforceGo! simply called “Phoenix Wright The Musical: RFGO! Sings”.
