People were waiting with anticipation for Google’s Android to finally launch on the G1 phone. After all of the wait, they’re finally putting the phone to good use… with Namco’s Pac-Man.
I suppose it doesn’t hurt that the app is free, but Pac-Man is beating out everything, ranking somwehere between 50,000-250,000 downloads so far, according to VentureBeat. The other Android hotness? The Weather Channel’s app. These 250,000 download numbers don’t reall compare to Apple’s App Store, who did over 100,000,000 downloads in just 60 days recently. Granted, the Android Marketplace is still quite new, and you can be sure that better stuff is coming.
The other day I was in an elevator, and the guy next to me was playing Pac-Man on his G1. I asked how it was, and he told me the control is really great. He said “it’s the best thing for Android out.”
I’m guessing the lack of selection is what makes this Android’s “killer app.”
